MAC (Suburban Metropolitain Area Communities)

Privileged and elegant neighborhoods embody what are the suburbs that surround the San Juan metropolitan area. Offering beautiful gated communities in a variety of settings, whether on tree-lined streets or on the hills with breathtaking views, these communities offer the indoor and outdoor spaces families dream of, all within easy access to all points of interest.  All of these metro-suburbs have their own vibrant “downtown” retail plazas, parks and individual charm that make them the communities of choice for high-income families.

Excellent Schools - The metro suburbs are also home to several excellent private schools accredited by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges that offer English and Spanish-language programs from Pre-Pre K through twelfth grade. Among them are: Baldwin Academy, located on a beautiful 23-acre campus in Guaynabo, San Ignacio Schools which are conveniently located inside the Santa Maria and San Francisco neighborhood, Commonwealth-Parkville School, located in Guaynabo and Hato Rey area.

Rich Gastronomy: Dining out is one of the favorite pastimes in Puerto Rico. Regardless of where you live, there’s sure to be a great restaurant.  However, the culinary scene in the metro-suburbs has burgeoned in the past several years.  A plethora of eateries can be found sprinkled throughout these neighborhoods along with people from all over who make their way there to delight in the different types of cuisine. Depending on your mood or appetite you can enjoy everything from a wine and tapas tasting boutique to haute Japanese cuisine to an authentic Italian feast…rivaling any restaurant stateside.

Active Lifestyle - Whether you fancy jogging, tennis, soccer or baseball, the metro suburbs certainly have ample green spaces and options. As in many suburbs in the United States, country clubs are a big part of social life. The same goes for the metro suburbs of Puerto Rico. One of the more prestigious members-only club is Caparra Country Club centrally located in Guaynabo and where families from the surrounding area congregate in the evenings and weekends to play sports or simply mingle. Parque Torrimar, open to all area residents and set within the charming Garden Hills and Caparra neighborhoods, is a favorite among locals and sports teams.  And as if this weren’t enough, Guaynabo even has an amazing forest reserve of approximately 600 acres called La Marquesa Forest Park where one can spend a leisurely afternoon walking, take a stroll in the cable car or watching the birds at the aviary.

Entertainment - Movies theaters can be found in most neighborhoods. These state of the arts theatres are the gathering places for many families on weekends. For a more diverse program with national and international artists and companies of the highest quality, visit Centro de Bellas Artes located in Guaynabo. This spectacular performing arts center has a year-round schedule of performances.

Shopping - Plaza Las Américas, the largest mall in the Caribbean,  offer a diverse variety of exclusive and specialty stores, restaurants, beauty salons, cinemas  and much more. San Patricio Mall, Montehiedra Mall, Los Paseos Mall,  Suchville Plaza and El Señorial  Plaza,  are a few others among the area within easy reach.
